The objective of the workshop is to present the ECSI activities in the area of system design to the Japanese and Asian system and SoC companies as well as research organizations.ECSI’s mission is to identify, develop and promote efficient methods, flows and standards for electronic systems design, with particular regards to the needs of the system-on-chip.

One of the ECSI’s main objectives is to enable the collaboration on the cross-domain system design issues between member companies originating from different electronic industry sectors: system companies, SoC integrators, IP providers and EDA vendors. By its nature, ECSI gathers various points of views, requirements and expertise of its prominent members and aims at building activities that benefit from this intrinsic richness. In order to enable the collaboration between its members, ECSI offers an independent (i.e. non-commercially biased) platform where the community-wide reflection on the most challenging technical and business problems can be initiated, and where the parties can share the knowledge, exchange expertise and initiate ambitious R&D activities (consortia, study groups, projects).

ECSI supports the member organizations in development of system design related standards for specification and design representation within OSCI (SystemC TLM, Verification), SPIRIT (IP-XACT at TLM, debug features, ...), OMG (UML profiles for Embedded Systems), OCP-IP (OCP at TLM).

Several R&D projects are and have been conducted by ECSI to advance the system design knowledge. In the past SYDIC-Telecom project was one of the first R&D activities to define system design concepts and models. Currently these activities concern SoC integration methods, standards and interfaces (the SPRINT project) or high-level modelling and synthesis (ICODES).

ECSI established a Study Group on UML for Embedded Systems and SoC Design that gathers the experts from industry and academia to define new standards for the efficient use of UML in electronic systems development.

The workshop will give an overview of these activities and will enable the discussion on the potential cooperation between ECSI and Asian partners on the on the most important topics.It is our strong believe that we all may achieve significant benefits from the cooperation on system design methods and related standards.
